One shift, five things that have to happen
Every job here sits somewhere on this line, and the line only works if the step before it was done properly. That is why we care more about the order being right than about it being fast.
Step 1
Goods in
Vehicles unloaded and checked against the paperwork before anything is booked in.
Step 2
Pick and pack
Lines picked by aisle, packed by order, so one picker owns one mistake rather than six.
Step 3
Check
Every order counted and signed off. Missing a box here costs a customer a service.
Step 4
Load
Runs loaded in drop order, so nothing has to be dug out in the back of a van.
Step 5
Vans out
Before 3:30pm. It is the promise the whole building is arranged around.

The rota goes out four weeks ahead, every time. Nobody rings you on a Sunday afternoon to ask whether you can come in — if the rota says you are off, you are off, and the depot is staffed without you.
